Within the Framatome family of companies, Framatome Technologies
is the primary representative to nuclear plant customers in Taiwan
and Korea. Recent Framatome activity in Asia includes the sale
of reactor coolant pump shafts to Maanshan Unit 1 in Taiwan; split
pin and baffle bolt inspection and safety analysis at Kori 1 in
Korea; and, a weld overlay on the recirculation system piping
at Chinshan Unit 1, also in Taiwan.
Maanshan
RCP Shafts
The reactor coolant pump shafts for Taiwan’s Maanshan
nuclear plant were fabricated by Jeumont Industries, a Framatome
subsidiary. Maanshan began to experience pump shaft vibrations;
removal of the pump internals identified cracks on the shaft.

Jeumont undertook the manufacture of five replacement shafts,
with an improved design to alleviate any future cracking in the
shafts in the Westinghouse 93A1 reactor coolant pumps. The first
two shafts will be delivered in February 2000 and the remaining
three in April 2000.
Filter
and Modeling System Sales
FTI has also begun selling its disposable cartridge
filters to Korea Electric Power Company for use in the Kori and
Yonggwang plants. KEPCO is in the process of replacing its OEM
filters in its NSSS. FTI recently received an order for its year
2000 filter requirements. At Kori, FTI is providing replacement
filters for sludge lancing equipment.
In addition, FTI has also sold numerous sets of its Modular Modeling
System (MMS) software in Asia. The MMS system is effective for
modeling systems of all plant types, including full scope PWR
and BWR nuclear and fossil plant systems, and individual systems
within plants, such as steam turbine systems including controls.
Sales have occurred in Japan, Korea, Taiwan, China, Singapore,
India and Australia.
