TMI Sets Continuous
Operation Record

Congratulations to Three Mile Island Unit-1, which completed a world record of 668 days of continuous operation when it shut down in September for its thirteenth refueling and maintenance outage.

This third world record run for TMI surpasses by 51 days the previous world record, which TMI also set in 1997. TMI’s capacity factor during this operating cycle was 100.2 percent. Since beginning commercial operation in 1974, TMI Unit-1 has generated more than one-hundred million megawatt hours of electricity.

During the outage, Framatome Technologies carried out work on TMI’s steam generators, completing eddy current testing, tube plug visual examinations, removed 107 Inconel-600 tube plugs, and installed 198 tube plugs and conducted in-situ pressure tests.
