A Renaissance of Nuclear Power Plant Construction

As President of Framatome ANP, I would like to welcome you to the fifth issue of Advanced Nuclear Power magazine.

Framatome ANP recently held its biennial customer conference, EFECT 2002 in Florida. The theme of the conference was "Energizing the Future of Nuclear Power," - a fitting theme for this issue. Industry, government, and worldwide customers discussed the state of the industry, long-term energy demands and the outlook for the future. The consensus was that a renaissance is occurring and that the long-term prognosis indicates electricity demand will exceed current generating capacity due to continued worldwide economic growth.

This edition focuses on the renaissance of nuclear power. There is currently talk of building new nuclear power plants around the world, from the recent decision in Finland to positive signals from other countries. This new interest is being driven by long-term energy demand forecasts, the need for environmentally friendly generating technologies, and attractive operating costs.

For this reason, Framatome ANP is developing multiple new reactor designs to meet the diverse worldwide customer requirements, using our broad experience in new plant concept and construction, services and fuel. Our unequalled expertise and long track record in these two last domains are a strategic asset that allow Framatome ANP to answer efficiently and quickly any customer demand for nuclear plant upgrade, modernization and optimization.
